Self-defense is one of the top reasons Americans purchase firearms.
It is always better to have a gun for protection and not need it, then to need it and not have one in dire circumstances.
That situation recently occurred recently in Houston, Texas, as a mother of four was attacked.
According to reports, the woman was being choked by her husband, when her 5-year-old sprang into action and grabbed her a gun.
From Click 2 Huston:
“According to investigators, just after 5 p.m. the man, identified as Derek Martin, broke into his wife’s apartment in the 12000 block of North Gessner and began choking her in front of their four children. Their 8-year-old daughter hit her father while their 5-year-old child got a gun, police said.
He was taken to a hospital and released. The extent of his wife’s injuries was not immediately known. The children — ages 8, 5, 2 and 1 — we’re not injured. According to police, Martin’s wife has an order of protection against him.”
These events are profoundly disturbing but there is little doubt that, without a firearm to protect herself, this event could have turned in to a tragedy.
Proper firearms safety is crucial if there is a gun in a house with children. The best way to keep your children safe around guns is to teaching them about firearms. Focusing on the four rules of firearms safety, along with safe handling, who is allowed to touch it, and when, can save lives.
The quick action by this toddler saved their mother. It’s something that many anti-gun activists refuse to discuss but guns do, in fact, save lives and can stop bad people from committing further crimes.
