You’ll Never Guess How Many Guns Americans Own…

If you listen to the mainstream, liberal media, you’d think that gun ownership was in decline and only those dumb enough to still own them were bitter white people from “fly over country.”

Former President Barack Obama once said that people who own guns were “bitter” and “clinging to guns and religion.”

I’ve got bad news for Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and all the other gun grabbers in America.

Civilian gun ownership in a American has risen to 400 million firearms!

Thats a MASSIVE increase from the 270 million guns that were estimated to be in the United States only ten years ago.

From the Firearms Blog:

In a new study published by the Small Arms Survey estimates that American civilians own owning just under 400 million guns. Worldwide it’s estimated that civilians own nearly 1 billion firearms, with India a very, very distant second to the US.

AMERICAN CIVILIANS ESTIMATED TO OWN 400 MILLION FIREARMS

The report published by the Swiss-based research centre in June estimates that the number of firearms owned globally by civilians, military and law enforcement totals around 1.1 billion. With American civilians owning 393 million of those or 40% of the world’s firearms. That’s more than those held by civilians in the other top 20 countries combined.

It is difficult to quantify exactly how many firearms are privately owned in the US. There many numbers suggested by numerous sources with estimates ranging between 250 million to as high as 600 million. The Small Arms Survey’s estimations are based upon official firearms registration databases, expert estimates, surveys and comparisons to similar countries on page 8 of their report the Small Arms Survey go into detail on how they computed their estimates.

The report makes use of a number of tables and diagrams to break down the data and perhaps the most interesting is he first pie chart, seen below. It shows how over 1 billion firearms around the world are distributed with civilian ownership, at an estimated 857 million, by far the largest group.

How many do you have that your wife doesn’t know about? I’ll admit, I have more than a few my wife doesn’t know about.

Unsurprisingly, the United States is far and away the global leader in firearms ownership.

Here’s Small Arms Survey’s table showing the estimated total civilian-held legal and illicit firearms in the 25 top ranked countries and territories, 2017:

United States 393,300,000
India 71,100,000
China 49,700,000
Pakistan 43,900,000
Russian Federation 17,600,000
Brazil 17,500,000
Mexico 16,800,000
Germany 15,800,000
Yemen 14,900,000
Turkey 13,200,000
France 12,700,000
Canada 12,700,000
Thailand 10,300,000
Italy 8,600,000
Iraq 7,600,000
Nigeria 6,200,000
Venezuela 5,900,000
Iran 5,900,000
Saudi Arabia 5,500,000
South Africa 5,400,000
Colombia 5,000,000
Ukraine 4,400,000
Afghanistan 4,300,000
Egypt 3,900,000
Philippines 3,800,000

Just over 10 years ago, in 2007, the Small Arms Survey published a similar report that estimated that 650 million guns were owned world wide. The report also believed that 270 million of these were owned by US civilians. This clear increase shows that the US civilian market is the foremost driver behind the increase in firearms ownership in the world. The latest report suggests that 120 firearms are owned per 100 people in the US. By this metric the next country to hold a substantial number of guns per 100 people is Yemen, with 53 guns per 100 people. Japan and Indonesia have the lowest number of guns per 100 people, both with an average of just just 0.3 guns per 100 people.

  1. IT DOSE’NT MATER IF AMERICANS HAD A TRILLION GUNS IF WE DO’NT HAVE THE BALLS TO USE THEM AGAINST THE CORRUPTION THAT IS KILLING OUR COUNTRY WE MAY AS WELL BE USING SLING SHOTS WE HAVE LOST THE BACK BONE TO DEFEND OUR COUNTRY LIKE OUR FOUNDING HAD WE WILL HAVE TO FALL TO FIND OUT WHAT WE HAD AND LOST SO SAD FOR OUR CHILDREN WERE DEAD GOD HELP US.

  2. I can understand why the Czech Republic feels so strong about owning self-defense instruments. Hitler just walked into their country and took it over in the early forties. hard to understand why the majority of Europeans do not feel the same. Sometimes people are unteachable. Sad!

  3. To say there are only 400 hundred million guns in America is naive at least. There have been all kinds of studies and research & reports done and so far no one has reached a total accurate figure. Even if someone claimed a number to be accurate how exactly could it be proven? A good example is Bill Whittle at truthrevolt dot com. They claim 90 out of every 100 citizens own a gun. Do the math that comes out to way more then 400 million if they own the average number of seven. For it is claimed the average gun owner in America owns seven guns. Now consider the average ammunition owned for each is over 50 rounds per gun. As you can see the numbers begin to get very large. We begin to speak of billions rather than millions.

Anyone on the left who thinks all the guns could ever be confiscated in the United States of America is looney tunes. However, even if they could be confiscated it could take a hundred years. Then consider the large majority would not turn them over willingly. How does law enforcement go around to every house and get them when the people resist?

In the final analysis it is fair to say the left will never succeed in getting the guns even if they somehow repeal the second amendment. All they will do when they come after them is start another civil conflict right here in the USA. If the amount of hatred that has permeated this nation already by left wing communists is any indication at all if a conflict comes about it may take millions, if not tens of millions, of lives. American lives!

  4. I think the number of gun owners is much greater than what it is claimed in this article. Even globally. I was surprised that India came in second, given their myriad of religions that teach peace. But peace doesn’t always mean being unarmed and open to abuse, as Gandi clearly stated. But closer to home, think about the rabid anti-2A states like CA. Many gun owners will not disclose any information because many want to be left alone mostly to avoid problems and arguments. Even wearing anything NRA related is to be avoided if it might bring out the noisy gnats, shouting anti-NRA and anti-gun nonsense. We lost the Gunmagedon laws because many gun owners in CA were apathetic. In retrospect, I think many were also cautious, wanting to avoid confrontations and arguments. Most of us want to be left alone to live our lives in relative privacy.

  5. The American founders always wanted the people to be armed, so they had written it so Second Amendment protects all of our other Amendments in the Constitution, That’s why it states in the Second Amendment is not to be infringed upon. The weapons were to Protect families, and to have a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State.
