ThecitydeclaredalocalstateofemergencywhenHurricaneHeleneapproachedtheFloridashore.Thechiefofpolice,DonaldC.Hagan,II,warnedresidentsthatthecitywasbanningthecarryingoffirearms,whetherthegunswerecarriedconcealedoropenly.Healsoprohibitedthesaleoffirearmsandammunitiontoanyone,nomatterifitwasaprivatesaleorfromagunstore.Storeswerealsonotallowedtodisplayfirearmsorammunition.Thestateofemergencyranfrom9A.M.onSeptember26through6A.M.onSeptember27.Althoughthestateofemergencyisover,theorderisalarmingtomanygunrightsactivists.
