FederalprosecutorsinWashington,D.C.,willnolongerslappeoplewithfelonychargesforpossessionofriflesorshotgunsinthenation’scapital,accordingtoU.S.AttorneyfortheDistrictofColumbiaJeaninePirro.
ThechangemeansfederalprosecutorswillnotseekchargesundertheD.C.lawthatmadeitillegaltocarryriflesorshotgunsinthedistrict,exceptinlimitedcasesforpermitholders.
Underthenewpolicy,theU.S.attorney’sofficewillcontinuetobringchargeswhenapersonisaccusedofusingashotgunorrifleinaviolentcrimeorhasacriminalrecordthatprohibitsthemfrompossessingafirearm.Thenewpolicyalsocoverslarge-capacitymagazines,butitdoesnotincludehandguns.
