Democrats should embrace the idea of gun safety classes in schools

Gun safety classes in grammar school are a great idea (“Gun safety a required class in some states,” Page A14, Nov. 9). Massachusetts school districts should research this option for adoption in their curriculum. I am a Democrat and a proponent of stricter gun control regulations, and I agree that adults should be held responsible for securing their firearms and be held liable when harm is caused by their failure to do so.
I believe that more needs to be done to keep firearms out of the reach of criminals. There is also a need to find some means to prevent the use of firearms by those who intend mass shooting attacks. However, it seems all we think of is those who use firearms. We Democrats should consider other measures that would enhance child safety. I found the Associated Press article about firearms safety classes in elementary, middle, and high schools to be very promising.
