California sues websites that publish blueprints for 3D printer ghost guns

TwowebsitesthatdistributeinstructionsforhowtomanufactureghostgunsarefacinganewlawsuitfromthestateofCaliforniaallegingthattheyprovideaccesstoillegalanduntraceablefirearms.
Thelawsuit,filedbyAttorneyGeneralRobBontaandSanFranciscoCityAttorneyDavidChiu,isaimedattheGatalogFoundationInc.andCTRLPEWLLC.
ThelawsuitinSanFranciscoSuperiorCourtarguesthatthewebsitesviolatedmultiplestatelaws,includingthedistributionofcomputercodeandguidelinesfor3Dprintingfirearms,illegallarge-capacitymagazines,andotherfirearm-relatedproducts.
Accordingtothelawsuit,thewebsitesoffercomputercodeandinstructionsformorethan150designsoflethalfirearmsandprohibitedfirearmaccessories.Thelawsuitsaidstateofficialsaspartoftheirinvestigationdownloadedthecodeandinstructionsfromthewebsite“withafewsimplekeystrokes”andusedittobuildaGlock-stylehandgun.
