The Webster County Attorney’s Office has officially cleared 31-year-old Josiah Byram of all criminal liability following the fatal July 24, 2026, shooting of 45-year-old Thomas Ahrens in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Investigators with the Fort Dodge Police Department determined that Byram was actively retreating to his own residence to escape an unprovoked attack by Ahrens before being forced to deploy a single, defensive gunshot to save himself.
