Elizabeth Warren just made the exact argument gun owners have been making for decades.
Not about guns. About voting.
She said it is already illegal for someone who is not an American citizen to vote, that laws already exist to prevent it, and that people who violate those laws should be prosecuted.
Fine. Now do guns.
It is already illegal to murder someone with a firearm. Already illegal for a felon to possess one. Already illegal to steal one. Already illegal to buy a gun for someone who cannot legally own it. Every firearm sold by a licensed dealer already goes through a background check, and lying on that form is another felony.
So by the standard she set herself, the answer should be enforcement.
But somehow that logic disappears the second the subject becomes the Second Amendment.
That is the double standard.
When it is a constitutional right they care about, existing laws are enough and new restrictions are treated like an attack on the right itself.
When it is your right to keep and bear arms, the laws are never enough, enforcement is never enough, and the next restriction is always called “sensible.”
The principle is not the principle.
It is a tool.
And they only pick it up when it protects something they value.
