Trump is not a gun guy.
And he may still be the most pro-Second Amendment president this country has ever had.
In a White House meeting with ranchers, Trump talked about walking through wolf country and asked the question every armed American understands immediately:
Do people actually walk around without guns?
That is what makes this different.
Most politicians say, “I support the Second Amendment, but…” and then everything after the “but” is a restriction.
Trump skipped the “but.”
For him, the gun is simple: you carry it because bad things happen and you want the ability to protect yourself.
Now, was he perfect on every gun issue? No. The bump stock ban was bad. “Take the guns first, due process second” was bad.
But look at how those stories ended. The bump stock ban got thrown out by a Supreme Court shaped by Trump’s nominees. And without Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett, we probably do not get Bruen — the case that forced every state to create a pathway for regular people to carry.
That is the bigger picture.
Trump may not know guns like a gun guy.
But he understands why you own one.
And that instinct changed the Second Amendment for everybody.
