After watching Florida rush to ram extreme anti-gun laws through the legislature — and violate the Second Amendment in the process — New York is looking to do the same. Democratic legislators and pro-gun control groups are looking to add new bills that could have sever impact on Second Amendment supporters.
Reported by the Democrat & Chronicle:
“The bills include “extreme risk” protective orders against people who have guns, a ban on bump stocks and an expansion of background checks. The lawmakers want to give judges the power to issue orders of protection that prohibit individuals from purchasing or possessing a gun if they are found likely to harm themselves or others. Other steps would be to expand gun buyback programs and ban individuals convicted of hate crimes from purchasing or possessing guns.”
These bills would wreak havoc on those wishing to purchase a firearm or for those that currently own one. The loose, poorly written language of a protective order for “extreme risk” should send chills down gun owners spines.
Will a gun owner be banned from a school, a mall or a sporting event simply because they own a firearm that’s safely kept in their own home?
Will a person not be allowed to buy a firearm if they were seen in public having a heated argument? If a judge has the power to decided on who can purchase a firearm on grounds if that person could cause harm to others, this could be a very real possibility.
Second amendment supporters and current gun owners need to pay attention to the 2018 mid term elections and these laws. If New York legislation were to push these gun controls through, it could spell doomsday for gun owners and activists.
