NY Bill Aims to Ban Air Rifle and Archery Teams

A Democratic lawmaker in NY has proposed new legislation that would ban all school Air Rifle and Archery teams. This is the latest battle front in the Left’s never-ending battle against the 2nd Amendment.

Taken from Ammoland:

“[A] proposal in New York’s legislature would outlaw all high school shooting sports programs in the state — including air rifle teams and archery clubs — on the premise that they feed into a gun and shooting culture that could lead to violence,” the Associated Press reported Thursday.

“Schools should not be supporting the spread of gun culture in society,” bill sponsor Manhattan Assemblywoman Linda B. Rosenthal (a Democrat, naturally) insists. “If parents want their children to have shooting instruction, there are opportunities that have nothing to do with the school.”

The perceived motivation behind this bill is just disturbing. Trying to equate learning to shoot for sport as part of a rifle or archery club/team to potential violence is insane.

If anything, these clubs and teams teach young adults discipline, respect for their firearms and the proper use and care for them. Neglect for gun safety is one of the biggest reasons for shooting accidents in America.

Anti-gun protesters have stated that they want common sense laws introduced for gun control, the only problem is none of the laws they introduce make any sense. If anything, we should encourage more children to take gun safety and shooting classes.

  1. If schools had more educational related activities, and fewer (preferably no) non educational related activities, I’d be happier. Money could then be spent on teaching our kids, and not spent on nutty things like football stadiums. If you parents want your kidlet to play football, or shoot for that matter, find the source of your contentment outside the school.

  2. You know Eric you may just be right, we should also do away with drivers education because of road rage, computer classes because of cyber bulling and science classes because they may teach students to make explosives. All other gym classes are a waist of time as well. You can spend the time teaching your kids all of these things. Good Luck.

  3. Most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Only from New York or California. What do you expect. Using this logic, kids should not be allowed to possess cell phones since they might lead to bullying, violence, and distracted driving.
