MurphyhasbeenadvocatingforsolutionstogunviolencesincehewasinauguratedinJanuary2013—onemonthaftertheSandyHookElementarySchoolshooting.
“Wearelosingagenerationofchildreninthiscountrytothetraumaofgunviolenceastheyexperienceit,eventhoughtheynevergetshot,”Murphysaid.“Becausethefearthattheyhavetolivewitheverydayisliterallycorruptingthesekids’brains,makingitunableforthemtolearn.”
