Virginia Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin and Attorney General Jason Miyares announced Wednesday morning they’re getting the Commonwealth out of California’s burdensome, expensive and environmentally damaging electric vehicle mandate.
“Onceagain,Virginiaisdeclaringindependence–thistimefromamisguidedelectricvehiclemandateimposedbyunelectedleadersnearly3,000milesawayfromtheCommonwealth,”Youngkinreleasedinastatement.“Theideathatgovernmentshouldtellpeoplewhatkindofcartheycanorcan’tpurchaseisfundamentallywrong.Virginiansdeservethefreedomtochoosewhichvehiclesbestfittheneedsoftheirfamiliesandbusinesses.Thelawisclear,andIamproudtoannounceVirginianswillnolongerbeforcedtoliveunderthisout-of-touchpolicy.”
Virginiawillexitthemandateattheendof2024afteritwasimposedbyaDemocraticlegislaturein2021.Startingin2035,themandaterequiresallcarssoldtobeelectric.
