Nebraska Senate Hopeful Wants Mental Evaluations for AR-15 Owners

Admittedly, there are some states, California, New York, and now Virginia, that come to mind where a political candidate can whip up support for ideas that clearly infringe on Second Amendment rights.

But Nebraska?

That’s where independent U.S. Senate Candidate Dan Osborn currently runs on a platform that is nothing short of radical. He proposed that owners of popular semi-automatic rifles undergo a mental health evaluation every five years.

Candidate recalled conversation with one voter to back up his scheme

If the law-abiding citizen convinces the evaluator, and thus the government, that they have both oars in the water, their modern sporting rifle would be “re-registered.” Seriously?

Osborn told a town hall meeting in Columbus that he spoke to a gun owner, and they predictably loved the idea. After the citizen told him he owned several semi-automatic weapons, the candidate proposed his idea.

“I said, let me ask you, would you have an issue with having to re-register those guns after taking a mental health exam–let’s say, I don’t know, just throwing a random number out there–every five years?” The gun owner responded with “No.” One person.

Such schemes have ZERO basis in the nation’s historical tradition of gun laws

Osborn went on to declare that he also had support from law enforcement for this scheme. Just for argument’s sake, has he or anyone who supports such rubbish heard of Bruen?

The Senate hopeful threw in perfunctory support for the Second Amendment, but that won’t fly in Nebraska. As was often declared in Game of Thrones, “words are wind.”

There will be a sprinkling of radicals who jump on board, but if Osborn truly believes most voters in the Cornhusker State will approve of his scheme, he has a rude awakening in store.

Perhaps mental evaluations of political candidates would be a better idea.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.

Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
