House of Representatives passes Public Procurement (Second Amendment) Bill

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives on Thursday passed the Public Procurement (Second Amendment) Bill, 2026 by a majority vote.
During the House meeting, Minister for Law Gautam, on behalf of Prime Minister Balendra Shah, tabled a proposal seeking endorsement of the bill. The proposal was subsequently approved by the lower house.
Before the final vote, lawmakers discussed and decided on amendments proposed to the bill.

The legislation replaces the public procurement ordinance that the government had promulgated while Parliament was not in session.
With its passage by the House of Representatives, the government has formally advanced the legal framework introduced through the ordinance by incorporating it into the legislative process. The bill will now proceed through the remaining constitutional procedures before becoming law.
